The basic issue is that the UK economy, not very dynamic at the best of times, has been shown not to function for growth outside the single market. Nobody has a solution for this and every government since Brexit has collapsed whilst pretending there are other solutions.

I'm 56. Racism was everywhere when I was a kid. People just did it, without comment. Normalised. In the 90s political correctness (later: Woke) appeared, and racism withdrew. I'm not saying it vanished. But by 2015, it was socially unacceptable, even in the rough areas I grew up in. Then Brexit.

And at the same time the media started a war against Woke. Against the thing that had made racism socially unacceptable. Media and politics normalised racism. On purpose. And now the media and politics wonder why racism is on the rise again. Actions have consequences.

At a No 10 briefing today we heard about the government's commitment to "a whole-of-society response to antisemitism”. Asked if this might involve the government leaving X, where antisemitism is not only rife but monetlised, were were told it is "something we always keep under review." So: no.

If you care about co2 emissions you should be raising fuel duty and increasing taxes on domestic use of natural gas for heating and cooking. Electric cars, induction stoves and heat pumps are all prove technologies now and we should be happy to phase out fossil fuels via tax rises.
