Starmer did a lot of human and humane today. Thought it was a speech that put him in the zone where there are actually people willing to consider voting Labour. And very good sections on education, racism and community power.

Starmer's speech won't convince the haters, but it was the best I've seen him give. Repositioned a lot of stuff in a good clear way, had a story to tell and a sense of mission. While I have plenty of nits to pick, it managed to address me not as a commentator, but as a person, which is a rare feat.

I really don't think "barring journalists you find annoying from your conference" is a good look for any political party, and I wish the people running Labour would stop looking at Reform and going "Oooh THAT's a good idea".

I think that was Keir Starmer’s best speech as Labour leader, in part because he clearly believed most of it and the argument actually cohered and had some policy substance to it.
