Ofc Dan is absolutely right. Calculating expected losses ~ predicting experience. So…philosophy - both analytic *and* continental (what is the basis of that experience) should inform the calculation.

This is *very* good. But the ghost haunting this sort of piece about the UK is that the security relationship has been considered to be fundamental to every UK administration in living memory.

Ah this is interesting! Wrote something in my PhD about textual extinction. Here we have a neat but counter intuitive comparison of modern textual longevity versus (say) Anglo Saxon land charters.

One of the absolute greatest pros / cons of people in high profile world (eg politics) is being good at talking. Talkers (defined broadly) really want to talk (also defined broadly) but the problem is that excess talking will *always* get you into trouble.

The @financialtimes.com interview with Peter Mandelson was and most certainly is a stone cold class. Now he’d be a *fantastic* lunch with the FT candidate.
