So just to be clear, all taxpayers will pay for traffic calming instead of fining the people that speed and leaving everyone else alone. We like this for a policy change? Are we so afraid of going after the actual rule breakers that we would rather put it on the back of everybody?

Residents are vocal in demanding speed enforcement cameras in their neighbourhoods because cameras work to reduce speeds, increase safety, and contribute to a sense of security for everyone using roads and sidewalks. Removing them will make cities more dangerous places.

Why bother with a public engagement? Just do it. Trial for 6-12 months and make it easily adjustable. Who would be consulted that might sideline the decision? BIAs? Resident associations? Why would their voice matter more than the thousands who benefit? Just do it. Be bold.

Saw a patient in the ER that was struck by a car while riding their bicycle. They noted that they were not intending to make a police report because the driver had stopped and been nice. Mutual kindness is heartwarming, but there are reasons why making an official report is important. 1/ #bikeTO

Without very good transit, there will be very bad traffic. The city's own projections into 2046 show high population growth concentrated in the suburbs. That's a lot of cars on the road without a good transit network (i.e. a frequent, functional LRT with reliable local bus connections).

Anyone with a brain should have been able to see these objections were spurious and dismissed them out of hand. 150k is literally nothing in the city budget, and the safety gains of traffic calming and sidewalks are well documented (and also extremely obvious!)

I honestly don’t think we should poll homeowners on whether or not they want sidewalks or bike lanes or MUPs. We should just have accessibility rules in place that dictate where these things are required whenever a street is built or recapitalized.

I live in Queensway Terrace North. My street FINALLY got a sidewalk & a decent drainage system. What a fantastic impact - more people out walking with strollers & mobility aids, decent management of rainwater, good access to the bus & incoming LRT, & it looks great. @tkavanaghbayward.bsky.social

I love bike bus because it gives our children time and space that they don't otherwise have. But it is not necessarily a fun or stress-free experience for us parents. My husband wouldn't come last year because it stresses him out too much before a day of work. 1/2

We could always require people register their vehicles with the city and charge a road user fee scaled to the weight of the vehicle. Funds directed to transit. If we’re going to nickel and dime transit users, that help reduce congestion, we should do the same for all road users. #ottbudget

This is a great example to keep handy for when people say “we don’t need a bike lane on this street, there’s already one a few blocks away”. (And funny how they seldom apply the same argument for cars.)
