Hey, councillor @timtierney.ca Reminder that democratic participation doesn't rely on which ward someone comes from. They bring genuine concerns. @bettertransitottawa.ca has done something you haven't done: ask questions and identify what can be done to improve service. Not just slogans.

The City of Ottawa released a report regarding compensation for transit users. One of the main ways they identified to make the service better in the short term was transit priority measures, one of the cheapest ones identified was continuous bus lanes! This is cheap and easy, do it now!

For reference this is what the "data collection" motion did to the hours of the bus lanes. Certainly doesn't just seem like "collecting data" to us...

Describing gutting the hours that the bus lanes will be in effect by 33% (2 of the 6 hours) as "cleaning up a few things around data collection in particular" is certainly a very interesting way to tell the public/other councillors what you're trying to do... Please contact your local councillor.

The language about "existing peak hours" was absolutely meant to prevent debate. If it said "reduce from three hours to two hours" then it would have garnered attention. When the language is about maintaining the status quo, it raises less red flags.

Note that the reason this got passed is because it doesn't explicitly say it reduces the bus lanes from 3 to 2 hours. Clause 3 includes the word "existing", which modifies the staff recommendation. This moved fast because @shawnmenard.bsky.social hid the modifier in unclear language.

After 30+ people showed up to the Public Works commission last week in support of expanding bus lanes on Bank Street, City Council has now passed a motion to reduce the scope of the bus lanes even further This motion was passed with absolutely no debate Passed without a single question

Disappointment at council today. Council just passed a motion from Councillor Menard for the Bank Street bus lane study which will restrict bus lanes even further from staff's proposed 3 hours to 2 hours. This means we will get no data about how parking affects bus flow in the area.

Imagine adding onto the cost of every apartment tower going up in the core millions of dollars in DCs to pay for new suburban roads, and then also admitting that those same roads have zero benefit to anybody else in the city except for those suburban growth areas. When are they going to fix this?

Seeing as how the head the Glebe BIA had an aneurism when it was suggested that parking may not be as important as effective transit, I can only assume some business oriented councilor is slow-walking this. Given the state of our transit, we need every easy project we can get to speed buses up.

We are very frustrated that this is continually being delayed over and over again. People who want to sign up to delegate have to set aside time to be able to do so, constantly pushing things back makes things harder for the people trying to make their communities better.

An oft-repeated statistic says men apply for a job when they have 60% of the qualifications while women wait till they have 100%. Pretty sure that stat was debunked, but … Several men seem to think that being Mayor is a suitable starter job for someone with no municipal experience. It’s not.

At this point, I think the City needs to seriously consider a) halting procurement of the Spirits b) procuring different rolling stock c) terminating any agreements with Alstom. This is absurd.

Yesterday's memo on bus cancellations asserts hundreds of millions in new spending that at the end of the day has little to do with cancelled buses. Let's separate the spin from the solutions.

There's enough inaccurate or concerning information in the way in which @en.ottawa.ca is communicating about the 2026 Budget that I felt it should be addressed. And it's the concept of $252M in "savings" that I want to talk about, because this information is being used falsely. 1/

OC Transpos projected budget is like $930M this year. It'd also cost about $1M to bring back 5m Line 1 headways during off-peak. $2M to notably make the service better. This is the City of nickle-and-diming things we need, while handing developers $500M because said businessmen suck at business.

OC Transpo is discussing potentially cutting off-peak Line 2 and 4 service to as low as every 30 minutes in response to council asking Line 2 and 4 to start at 5 AM. Let your councilor know so we can avoid a repeat of last year’s Line 1 cuts and not fall down the public transit death spiral.

The cyclist got hit at the exact same intersection I was about to bike by, it could have been me. We need to consider banning right on red in all downtown intersections. My bus usage has fallen quite a bit. Living near Preston I am fortunate to have line 2, but for east/west trips the 11 is often quite a slog and the loss of the 85 makes many of my trips now require a transfer or walking all the way to Carling to grab the 85
