Y’know how mass shooters keep trying to escalate to be the biggest and worst for their fifteen minutes of fame and some kind of evil record even if they’re dead? Getting that feeling from ICE.

Picked my parents up from O'hare today. It's, of course, cold here, but not...remarkably cold, really. -10 or so. My parents Did Not Have Winter Coats. Shades of every single time growing up they told me to put a jacket on because it was 65 are haunting me.

For any unions participating, this is unequivocally 100% an illegal strike. Generally speaking, formal job action by unions is prohibited while a contract is in effect - strikes are only allowed once a contract expires (unfair labour practice strikes exist too but I'm trying to keep this simple)

I've talked to people on the ground about the strike here tomorrow, and the single thing everyone brings up is just how shockingly wide the support for the strike is. Businesses that no one would have expected to support it are doing so.

And we are not "centering whiteness" by honoring folks like John Brown or Viola Liuzzo. They counted the cost and laid down their lives for the struggle just like one of my great-grandfathers did. This is why we need A People's History of Humanity (Zinn) instead of the propaganda and lies.

This is an excellent analogy, because my recollection from grade school is that the pen on the right looks fun and exciting, and then you play with it for a few minutes and realize it's not actually useful for anything and in fact makes some tasks more cumbersome, and never think about it again.

And you can't assign a number to "weird and interesting." You have to take risks. You have to be OK with failure. Otherwise you're publishing 10,000 titles that are vaguely similar and that's not going to work out for you long term. It's boring.

I've said this a couple times in interviews lately but it's annoying that the lesson publishing will take away from this isn't "invest in more specific, niche, and/or weird books that cater to an under-served readership." It'll be "MORE SPORTS" bc that's a variable they can quantify.

Half the street corners around here have people--from every walk of life, including republicans--standing guard to watch for suspicious vehicles, which are reported to a robust and entirely decentralized network that tracks ICE vehicles and mobilizes responders.

I have been actively involved in protest movements for 24 years. I have never seen anything approaching this scale. Minneapolis is not accepting what's happening here. ICE fucking murdered a woman for participating in this, and all that did is bring out more people, from more walks of life.

I do think ICE kidnapping so many random white citizens based on nothing might, actually, be helping in some ways, because way, way more random white people are being affected by "My friend/kid/sister??? What the fuck???"

I don’t think people quite understand that the occupation by ICE in the Twin Cities has more or less erased non-white people from public life. They cannot safely exist in any space accessible to the public and moving between private places leaves folks vulnerable to kidnapping by armed masked goons.

Got my first bag of potato chips in months. Cracked it open. The first chip out of the bag was... soggy? The second chip was almost fungal. Baffled, I explored the bag and discovered AN ENTIRE POTATO. Unsliced, brined, like a wad of seasoning juice. It had survived, and now was juicing the chips.

Yes, voting against ICE funding is the morally right thing to do. But you can be the most heartless political consultant bastard out there - cutting ICE is still the smart play. That Schumer/Jeffries are silent right now is political malpractice (and morally reprehensible, if you care about that).
