Why do all the HID UIs limit the maximum acceleration and speed to ridiculous slow values? Are integers expensive to add to a slider? Is everyone afraid dumb users set it up so fast they cannot undo it and so decide to accept 10% of users will never be able to setup their ideal cursor speeds?

The best way to
#pauseAI
is to just cap the energy consumption per company. Its easy to measure and has positive externalities besides giving us time for security and tooling research.

Things that will be possible: - maintain a fork of a project in another language or ui framework - maintain a for with complex changes while keeping upstream syncing in - revive your favourite unmaintained projects - clone any software locked in evil corp

if the usa would just enforce the anti monopoly laws they have and the eu the data portability laws we have, the world would be a very different place. The problem is not policy but much deeper

lol it’s so genuinely fun seeing Cory take decades of fluency in how these systems are broken and serve it up for a mainstream audiences. Even if you know “enshittification” well, this is worth the watch. And love to

brexit was our 9/11 from within, ukraine from the outside. both were announced and we did nothing to stop it and had nothing in response. its arguably better than a war under false pretense but we surrendered our last bit of optimism for growing together to the grim chaos of post globalization.

Its obvious we will need drastic ai taxes, if done right they will also push open models. better to do before ai controls even more of public discourse. as with my calls for advertising bans, this should only apply to companies with z millions revenue.

It's not only in the US that the far right and tech monopolies have a strongly aligned agenda. We're watching a direct replay of the cartel playbook leading up to WWII.

I would argue even extreme accelerationalists should have a motivation to promote AI safety and slowing down at least certain phases. Anyone would want to prevent being exterminated by an unconscious paperclip machine and reach the state of devine superintelligence before handing over the world.

We need a human right to opt out of ads. Every company above size x has to publish average per user ad revenue and give an option to opt out for that price not more. Its connected to the right of algorithmic control over our feeds wich is harder to do but would subsume this right.

What if technology didn’t feel so… hollow? Some friends and I just released a manifesto about a world where tech leaves us feeling nourished (along with an evolving list of theses about how we can build it)

Why don’t all services send pdf invoices as default? Why don’t invoices usually have the company in the file name? Why is cursor splitting a month in 10 unmanageable invoices? Do US companies not require accounting? I would estimate the amount of work wasted in the gazillions.

All software should work offline or when the server is down with whatever data you have cached locally. Serving from cache for dynamic requests should have been the default on the web instead of everything breaking down.

The golden rule that Alan Kay will mention some system from the ’60s or ’70s as still being unsurpassed by today’s tech in every talk he gives, without ever giving a hint as to what exactly is still unsurpassed, still holds true.

Landlording shouldn't be a for-profit industry. I said what I said. Before you get your boxers bunched about "who will manage apartment buildings?" please actually just go look up public and co-op housing. All landlords do is drive up housing costs. That's it. They provide no social benefit.

Dearly lacking discourse in local-first... the prerequisites for "data ownership" is it must be freely addressable (e.g. via the file system) and one must be able to adversarially do things with it (e.g. open/ubiquitous formats).
