The more I think about it, Mel Baggs is exactly who we need to be talking about, and people like hir I loathe to think her advocacy would be reduced to a cautionary tale about ableism …AND the way in which she RADICALLY transformed my understanding of cognitive functioning we need more of that

The kids here might not know about Mel Baggs (sie/hir) who radically changed my understanding of cognitive function In the early 2000’s, I thought Mel’s YouTube may be a hoax. I was an ignorant twit. We know better now re: nonspeaking individuals but when Mel & I were young, sie was disbelieved.

What gets me the most is that we know that many/most grievance parents are also Autistic which means if they're pushing a cure, we will continue to be born AND continue to suffer. No one gets what they want here. Radical acceptance of neurodiversity w/ universal accommodation is the ONLY solution.

Scripts to say something & then shut up: I invoke my right to be silent without an attorney present & I do not have an attorney so I will be silent. Am I under arrest? May I leave? say them out loud. practice them. you want them to fly from your lips so you may swiftly zip them. be safe, fellas 🫶

Scripts for bad faith inquiries: I'm not sure I understand. Can you rephrase? What are you really asking? I don't understand how that question is relevant to our current discussion That seems to be a bad faith question & I won't respond I'm not responding to that I'm disengaging (& walk away)

More scripts for trying to speak up against hate but having trouble: "I can't believe you just said that" then leave the area "I won't listen to this" & leave the area "You're a piece of work" leave the area "That's messed up" leave the area & just LEAVE the area! No audience! Zero tolerance!

thinking about these things now will ensure that you behave in the manner you would be proud of later allow yourself to do the thought exercises of the worst case scenario let the pendulum swing there. think about what you'd do. what are your choices? what are your deal breakers? think about it.

In thinking about these IRS, other officials, attorneys, etc... it is important to think about the ways in which fascism will come for you and the ethical quandaries that may come up it's important to think about what you would do, in advance, if asked to do something against the law / your ethics

this is our time to stand up for what's right and we need to get REAL comfortable with the visceral feeling of "being in trouble" if we're going to continue to act in a manner we can be proud of as custodians of care
