There’s nothing about Ontario’s transit expansion that should make anyone hopeful if one is looking at best practices. Are we building more transit? Yes. Are we building it well? No. Is it cost effective? No. Is it meeting user expectations? No. Is it better than doing nothing? Sure 🤷🏾‍♂️

torontonians already generally view line 6 and LRT as a mode to be an utter failure, and aren't hopeful about line 5. line 5 working fairly well in its grade separated portions should productively refocus anger away from mode decisions made decades ago & into how we operate surface rail transit.

the city will not have upgraded TSP ready for opening, & I'm not aware of any progress towards lifting speed restrictions, or fixing the overspeed braking system one half of the line is going to be a complete gong show for a good while, and a testament to toronto's ridiculous street rail operations

when L5 opens, the public is going to really notice the difference between the grade separated west half and street-running east half ~15 min to get from mt dennis to laird, but 40+ min laird to kennedy. i already see the headlines: scarborough transit riders get the short end of the stick, again
