I don’t think anyone is prepared for what they just did w/ ICE. This is not a simple budget increase. It is an explosion - making ICE bigger than the FBI, US Bureau of Prisons, DEA,& others combined. It is setting up to make what’s happening now look like child’s play. And people are disappearing.

The thing is,those politicians who introduced students fees& loans and subsequently, arrest at border for non-payment, themselves benefitted front a FREE tertiary education. Instead of passing that onto the next generation, they cut taxes (which benefitted those same politicians) and made up...(1)

They chipped away at our Kiwisaver and raised our taxes via GST and no billionaires wrote op-eds coming to our defense. I will never ever care if their wealth gets taxed. I don’t even care if taxing them craters the economy, they cratered the entire world.

The choice by the current NZ govt not to condemn targeting of academics is a major red flag. When privileged men in positions of power choose not to hold other privileged men in positions of power accountable and instead deliberately shield them from accountability, they’re condoning the behaviour.
