This would be an incredible comedy premise though. A friend group realizes that one of them has been using the others for market research for a decade and they were all carefully selected/guided to be representative norms.

yeah I think this is something people mostly don't get: ships + cannon were *unbelievably* powerful. like, the classic outside context problem for most places but even in the context of European land warfare ships were incredibly strong. (Games very rarely represent this well, curiously)

to win this fight, we cannot limit ourselves to arguments based on competency or efficiency. we should attack incompetence where we see it, ofc, but we must be militant in arguing - ad nauseam - that the roots of this dysfunction & collapse are moral and spiritual. to do good, we must be better

we are living thorough 10 years of moral collapse. itβs happening everywhere but is concentrated in the US. we have given up on even trying to argue that there must be more to life, both individually and collectively, than bare materialism and power. we must rededicate ourselves to meaningful life.

i think that one of the basic problems is that most things promoted as true by those critics are either false or irrelevant. it is like criticizing Trump by asserting that he is a vampire who eats babies. he is worse than a vampire who eats babies, but he is also not that.

Important point that so many people miss. A billionaires tax, actually doesn't raise that much money. What it does do is put some control on the astronomical concentration of wealth, and therefore power, in the hands of a few suspect actors.

In general it seems like the issue is that everyone on all sides has relatively high standards on insignificant nonsense because that's all you can filter on since the real red flags happen later and nobody seems willing to acknowledge this, leading everyone to get increasingly angry and sad

People like to say that the system of measurements they grew up using is "intuitive." It probably feels that way to you, but this is because of your familiarity with it, not because of any objective property of the measuring system. I know this b/c the "system" below feels totally intuitive to me.
