Is electricity demand growth AND fossil decline possible? Australia says YES 🇦🇺 Fossil generation is now down 23% since the peak in 2009, despite demand rising 14% over the same period. Solar and wind have grown 20x since then and now make up a third of Australia's electricity.

China's clean power growth reached the next level in 2025. Clean power met all growth in electricity demand. Solar and wind met 94%. China added more solar in 2025 (336 TWh) than the entire world did in 2023 (331 TWh) Fossil generation fell for the first time in a decade.

In Chile, solar is now the single largest source of electricity! 🇨🇱 In 2025, solar produced a QUARTER of Chile's electricity, compensating for low hydro output and keeping costly fossil fuels low. Chile (25%) has the second highest solar share globally behind Hungary (27%).

Chile and Australia are in the next phase of solar growth ☀️🔋 Battery deployment is now so high that new solar generation doesn't add to the midday peak, but grows in shoulder hours, morning and evening. 50% storage to solar ratio is enough to shave off the entire peak.

Why is the global energy landscape looking increasingly dire for fossil fuels? Almost all the remaining countries where fossil-powered electricity has so far still been rising have excellent solar resources. Saudi Arabia, Egypt, India etc. are ready for solar to take off!

Solar and wind met three quarters (74%) of the growth in electricity demand in the US in 2025. Solar alone met 65%. The US is back in a period of load growth. Quick to deploy solar, wind and batteries are the fastest and cheapest way to meet that demand.

20 years of progress: At the beginning of this century, growth in electricity demand meant growth in fossil fuels. First wind power, and now solar, have changed this. Now, solar and other clean sources can structurally meet all growth in demand.

India will not be the next China for coal generation 🇮🇳🔥❌ India's solar and wind per capita is 5x China's at the same GDP level. Electricity demand is lower as India's economy is more service sector focused. → India's coal power will likely peak at less than 1/3 of China's peak output from 2024.

Solar is the fastest growing source of electricity in history. In 2025, global solar grew by 636 TWh, more than twice the UK's annual electricity demand. 3x more growth than wind 18x more than gas or nuclear

Pakistan's solar buildout is truly incredible 2020: 4 TWh, 3% of the mix 2024: 20 TWh, 11% 2025: 37 TWh, 19% Nearly all distributed solar generation. Solar is modular, scalable and affordable and the fastest way to energy independence for many countries.

Solar reached 8.7% of global electricity in 2025, but peak output is already significantly higher. In May, solar met a quarter of global midday demand and well over 50% for some countries. The good news: batteries are now cheap and are scaling fast to shift this output!

This is already demonstrably incorrect. And Wright isn't even dead yet.

Global solar generation continues its exponential growth, rising a record 636 TWh in 2025. It reached 2,778 TWh: - 30% more than in 2024 (27% avg in last 10 yrs) - more than 10x in 10 years - higher than wind for the first time - almost level with nuclear (overtake in 2026)

For the second time in four years, the UK is facing high gas-fired electricity costs due to a global fossil crisis. The difference between four years ago and now? Wind and solar capacity deployed since 2021 is reducing gas reliance and saving an estimated £7 million per day!

The next tipping point in the energy transition is approaching. Overall, solar has already been cheaper than fossil power for a while, but upfront costs used to be higher. That's no longer the case. Solar is now competitive upfront AND has vastly lower operating costs (no fuel).

Back in the last fossil energy crisis (2022), the EU racked up a fossil fuel import bill of roughly $750 billion. The current crisis again threatens sky high import costs. That money could buy roughly a terawatt of solar capacity, >2x the currently installed capacity in the EU (0.42 TW)...
