The new European Butterfly Red List is published today, with worrying findings. Over 1/4 (28%) of Europeβs 442 species are threatened with extinction or are close to being so. The situation is far worse for our 148 endemic species, 40% are now threatened or nearly so

First time I've had a good look at a caterpillar's mouth! This Eyed Hawkmoth larva was obligingly positioned for an interesting view of the black mouthparts and it's six true legs. Feeding on apple at my Weymouth allotment.

Record count of 60 Peacocks in Purbeck Bunkers ydy, but c30 were dead, eaten by bats! So they went into hibernation early and got munched! Grills have recently been put over entrances to protect the bats and this has clearly encouraged them!
