This afternoon North Yorkshire Police announced the suspicious disappearance of young male White-tailed Eagle G834, the first to fledge from Dorset in centuries. This eagle was special for multiple reasons, not only his historic status but also wowing visitors & school children around Poole Harbour

Has anyone else in Poole seen stag beetles? There were several huge black things flying above our Hamworthy garden last night, which looked an awful look like stag beetles. I've never seen them flying in the UK before.

A friend visited this weekend, and we spent a lot of time wandering around the woods and meadows of Upton Country Park. And had a sauna among the oak trees! It's lovely to see it through someone else's eyes and to realise how lucky we are to have it on our doorstep

Pretty sure all 4 eggs at Poole Peregrines hatched. Tricky with occasional stills and what looks like one ball of white fluff! More egg shell appeared this morning at 0700. Nice, full house! Classic falcon hatching strategy with one delayed as a 'gamble'..will survive if super strong or lots of food

We noticed mason bees nearby, so I drilled some holes in posts in the garden. Bees arrived while I was still drilling!

Took me 1hr 10 mins to get to Bournemouth hospital today, from Hamworthy (11 miles). Trying to get home but train cancelled. (Staff bus (which drops me 3 miles from home) left early. I can afford to get home by other routes, many can't. It is an absolutely dreadful place to get to

This is good news, but the derelict UMIST campus is a tragedy, especially the gorgeous Victorian main building. When I studied there UMIST was a prestigious independent university. It had a fun, down to earth atmosphere. Now it doesn't exist.

We've had a wonderful few days camping at Knepp. A highlight was this magical moment with a purple emperor (uncropped phone pic!), at the edge of a muddy pond!

Some great Knepp moments so far but highlights include the closest Purple Hairstreak I've seen, resting on an Oxeye Daisy in the meadow at the Wilding Kitchen and Shop #kneppholiday @kneppwilding.bsky.social @ukbutterflies.bsky.social

We arrived at Knepp just in time to see the first purple emperor butterflies. We spotted eight today!
