St Aldhelm's Head hasn't had a great autumn compared to other local headlands, so today's Pine Bunting felt well deserved. I never saw it again after the initial find, but know it was seen again briefly by others late afternoon. I'm still struggling to sex the bird (1/n) @dorsetbirdclub.bsky.social

This suggests that it has been a strong breeding year for dormice in Dorset. Our warm summer may have encouraged second broods or early breeding from this year's young.

What a late-season dormouse boom at Powerstock Common nature reserve! 🙌Over the last two months our ecology team found almost 50 dormice in our monitoring boxes across the site, including a couple of late-season breeding females.

In 2024 alone, our citizen scientists covered an incredible 377,613km, spending over 13,000 hours searching for whales and dolphins - that’s the equivalent of a year and a half at sea! Their dedication led to 51,514 individual animals being recorded, representing 46 different cetacean species!
