Republican lawmakers in Oklahoma introduced legislation this week that would require every public university in the state to construct “a Charlie Kirk Memorial Plaza”, with a statue of the assassinated Republican activist and a sign calling him a “modern civil rights leader”, or pay monthly fines.

Apparently Charlie Kirk was not only a new Saint Paul (according to Cardinal Dolan) or a potential 13th disciple of Christ (according to Rep. Troy Nehls) , but also maybe Superman.

Dems baffle me. Why aren't they immediately putting a resolution up for vote that honors Melissa Hortman, using the same language from the Charlie Kirk resolution? Like, do it today.

Charlie Kirk’s death is a tragedy, and I condemn all political violence from wherever it comes. House Republicans designed today’s resolution as a political “gotcha” — one that attempts to put words in my mouth to endorse Kirk’s views. I cannot do that, so I voted “no.”

I'm not sure “gaslighting” quite captures what's going on with this massive effort to sanitize and sanctify Charlie Kirk, which many House Democrats just helped along today. Republicans desperately want to turn him into a martyr, that’s par for the course, but why are Democrats helping them?
