I write because I love writing. I love writing even when I'm struggling with a writing problem that is killing me. Finding a way through that problem is both intensely rewarding and also helps me become a better writer. There is no reason for me to ever outsource that.

based on my experience of observed behavior, the issue is not actually people being racist to AI chatbots, but people who are very clearly just excited they get to be racist to something. do I think everyone who says "clanker" or whatever is real life racist? no, obviously not!

I get that liberals need to signal to other liberals that they are not mere grubby partisans, mere team players. They are independent minded, judicious, seeing the bigger picture. They see the flaws on both sides. They don't judge or attack or call their opponents names. Etc. etc.

And I even somewhat respect the motivation to be that way, but I wish people like that would acknowledge to themselves that *excess* charity can also be an intellectual error. Insisting on nuance & complexity when the reality is dumb & simple *is an error*. And it leads to more errors.

My basic compass for generative AI is that, all things being equal, I want to be making and using the stuff that goes into the model, not the stuff that comes out of it.
