Heard from inside the National Cancer Institute, part of NIH — travel through April is canceled. Purchasing with government card is frozen. All public comms are off limits. Can’t even submit abstracts to future meetings. Can’t submit *manuscripts* for publication. All hiring activity frozen. Fuck.

Scoliosis is a common condition in which the spine curves to the side and rotates, often onsetting during adolescence. In our lab, we generate zebrafish with scoliosis-like spinal curves to try to understand the causes of this disease.

#ZebrafishFunFacts: While Kimmel et al. (1995) famously standardized the embryonic development of #zebrafish, Parichy et al. (2009) takes it one step further with characterizing postembryonic zebrafish. They establish Standard Length (SL) as measure of developmental progress rather than age. 🧪

Exciting preprint from @chiarafornetto.bsky.social's research on colour vision in zebrafish! Turns out their spatiotemporal vision is mainly built on R/UV cones, and G/B cones provide supportive functions like background subtraction! 4 cones allows more computation earlier in vision!
