I have seen this paper but I do not really understand what is new here? This is just adiabatic decompression melting, right? And the higher the mantle potential temperature, the shallower melting stops, and melts are less enriched in incompatible elements?

I am still planning a close read of this paper and haven't gotten through all the details, so I'm not sure. But I don't think a lot of people really conceptualize kimberlites as the incipient melts in MOR settings?

Not all. West Virginia is bituminous but the stuff coming out of Wyoming is subbituminous. Also have lignite mining in North Dakota and Texas.

In the US, anthracite is only mined in northeastern Pennsylvania and makes up only about 1% of total mined coal in the US. Anthracite is high quality and mostly used in the metals industry and not typically in power plants because it’s expensive.

I really do hate that people who are geological illiterate keep pointing to records compiled by paleoclimatologists to downplay climate change because, if anything, the lessons of deep time only emphasize how extraordinary and unprecedented the rate of modern warming is.

Disaster researchers and hazard scientists would be thrilled by such a development!

How about, instead of funding DHS, Congress funds FEMA as an independent agency and the Coast Guard & TSA as part of the Department of Transportation?
