Hello new followers! Iām Lizzy. My expertise is ore geology and mineral exploration, but Iām interested in all aspects of earth science. Iāve been a field mapper, lab scientist, adjunct faculty, and currently a SAHM because the job market is always up and down š

US House GOP & Dems have compromised on 5-year transportation bill. Draft bill includes a $150 annual fee on electric vehicles ($35 for plugins). No fee on gas-powered cars. Though not huge, this is another disincentive to shift to EVs in a country where the EV market share is low & declining.

Good opinion piece that I agree with and a good read if you can access it. TLDR: Failing to secure a social license to operate will cause projects to be delayed or canceled. The push from the US government is probably making things worse.

The critical minerals story nobody seems to be following in Canada is what the USA has done to Cuba and Canadaās Sherritt International. The place where I learned much about metals and minerals. Sherritt has a refinery just outside Edmonton. It started up in 1954.

What I mean by this is that the US is not really working on securing a supply chain for all the minerals it has deemed ācriticalā, mostly just rare earth minerals. They should be investing in things like nickel and cobalt too.
