Some proposed climate “solutions” just don’t stack up against an objective, evidence-based perspective. That’s why the Drawdown Explorer calls these “Not Recommended” climate solutions.

LA wildfires public health impacts: What is the main finding? Local residents experienced a 24% excess in pulmonary illness, a 46% excess in myocardial infarction, and a 118% excess in systemic illness requiring emergency medical attention.

Nearly all weather, climate, & natural hazard research involves NCAR in some way-either directly (as is the case with countless affiliated scientists at universities or elsewhere) or indirectly (through use of NCAR's irreplaceable community datasets, predictive models, or its computing facilities).

NCAR provides the facilities, tools, & data critical for atmospheric sci education & research. Leading computer models of the Earth System are developed here. The training, continuing education, & sci exchanges NCAR makes possible are irreplaceable. Its dismantling would be chaotic & devastating.

It’s been observed that tropical cyclones have been migrating poleward in recent years, and climate change was suspected as a cause. But this study found SST patterns caused it, “and that future changes may differ markedly from the recent multi-decadal trends.” www.nature.com/articles/s41...

#Glacier #extinction rates will peak within decades, with thousands of glaciers disappearing each year by 2040s. Peak extinction rates in #Alps will be reached in the 2030s. Urgent policy action can still prevent thousands of glaciers from being lost per year. 🧪❄️ www.nature.com/articles/s41...

"These results indicate that increasing wildfire destruction in the United States has resulted not only from increased exposure but from rising rates of building destruction, potentially indicating more extreme wildfire behavior."

Wildfires are getting more destructive in the US, especially in conifer forests of the Northwest...10% of exposed buildings were destroyed in 2002–2012, but this percentage more than tripled, to 32% in 2013–2022. Nice work @amandacarlson.bsky.social and co-authors! www.pnas.org/doi/10.1073/...

A third of all housing on barrier islands is now in buildings with more than 50 units. For comparison, only about 9 percent of all housing in the entire state is in buildings with more than 50 units.

In their natural state, barrier islands are ephemeral. Slowly but continuously, waves reshape their form. Over thousands of years, the sea has pushed them landward, a grain by grain migration from miles offshore to the edge of the coast.
