Each semester I go in my classroom and I try to figure out what we would use to block the doors, if it would be safe to crawl out the windows, where we could hide if there was a mass shooter in campus. It’s such an indictment of this country how we have normalized these preventable tragedies.

The flooding in WA is terrible. My heart goes out to all. I know the pain & trauma of losing a home to flood or fire is similar regardless of economic station--& with thousands evacuated, this will be spread over every economic class. Don't think it's only the wealthy & well insured affected. 1/

I do think one thing that has been perpetually missing from many discussions within the field about the future of FEMA is the broader political context within which these changes are/ will unfold in. Today feels like a good example of why we can’t ignore that.
