2024 was the Year of Retrospectives of the masters! Whether it be films by Nancy Savoca and Edward Yang, or John Cassavetes, Akira Kurosawa and the Iranian New Wave: 1962-79, venturing out to the movies for such retrospectives is a pilgrimage I would look back on fondly for the rest of my life.

Recently I saw The Misfits on the big screen for the first time and I cannot get over this comeback by Clark Gable after getting rejected by Marilyn Monroe! I guffawed out loud in the theatre

I've only made an effort to see 3 Hindi films in theatres (outside of film festivals) this entire year. Shoojit's latest film will make it 4. This just shows my faith (or lack of it) in contemporary mainstream Hindi cinema. Most of it is barely cinema, just a smorgasbord of scenes stitched at random

Karan Arjun is a popular movie but to see it getting 105 screens on a single day in Mumbai versus AWIAL, a Grand Prix winner, getting 9 screens... the theatrical scene: distributors, exhibitors have failed us. will wait for a 2045 re-release when AWIAL will get 100 screens

Finally saw The People's Joker in cinemas. Being unburdened from new releases has been liberating to say the least ❤️
