Sad news. Long before her vocal fame Laine had an uncredited role (street urchin) in the Korda produced THE THIEF OF BAGDAD (1940). Was only just singing her praises as the film’s surviving cast member (Glynis Johns died at 100 last year) in a soon-to-be-released audio commentary for the film. #vale

Just seeing the news that Ted Kotcheff has died. A prolific filmmaker from Canada who - for better or for worse - made two of the defining American films of the 1980s (FIRST BLOOD and WEEKEND AT BERNIES) and, of course, WAKE IN FRIGHT, one of the greatest films about Australia of all time. RIP.
