The 1861 magazine for the earlier fog gun at North Stack fog station and the later 1895 electric fog siren that used a bank of 35 Tannoy Triple Frequency speakers that could send a chord siren over 6 nautical miles. It was disused in 1986.

here is the Old Bailey, York's other Norman motte. Built 1067, damaged by Vikings in 1068 then rebuilt again. The bailey rampart was later used to carry the Bar Walls from Bichdaughter Tower to a postern gate by the River Ouse.

Looking for an *L.A. based* artist who (against all odds) has time for a poster gig before the end of the year. It's for a science + art event. We can offer $500 for the gig. Dreadfully sorry about the timeline. Link a portfolio if you're interested, I'll delete this post when we found someone.

Scrooge entered timidly, and hung his head before this Spirit. He was not the dogged Scrooge he had been; and though the Spirit's eyes were clear and kind, he did not like to meet them. "I am the Ghost of Christmas Present," said the Spirit. "Look upon me."

Making music isn’t about doing whatever you want or having fun. It’s about constructing an opaque sonic bureaucracy, which you then diligently work within as a stifled but honest functionary.

Extremely sad news that Brent McLachlan, the amazing drummer from New Zealand groups the Gordons and Bailterspace, has died after a long bout of ill health. He’d settled in the US and ran a studio in NYC; I was finally lucky enough to see Bailterspace live a couple of years back. Tremendous.

It still blows my mind that in the 1980s we played videogame off of cassette tapes. Everything about it makes so little sense. Yet when you read about how it worked, you discover how bloody brilliant the process truly was. Also, the cover art for Ghosts n Goblins port on the Spectrum was awful!

Landmark British photographer Martin Parr dies aged 73
Parr said his brightly coloured, closely observed pictures of British life were ‘disguised as entertainment’ but they became hugely popular Martin Parr, the British documentary photographer who captured the peculiarities of the nation with clarity and hilarity, has died aged 73. He had been diagnosed with cancer in May 2021. Known for his acute observations of the English class system, Parr’s images covered sunbathers and Conservative clubs, village fetes and coffee mornings, often in vivid colour and with more than a dash of humour. His iconic 1986 photobook The Last Resort: Photographs of New Brighton captured working-class holidaymakers in the Wirral, Liverpool and helped mark a sea change in British documentary photography, from the gritty, black and white style of the past towards a cheekier and more colourful style.
