Everyone enjoys listening to the music they like. Being a music fan means you also enjoy listening to the music you don’t like.

I tried watching Stranger Thing on the Netflix Channel but they started in right away with the synthesizers. Jeez I didn’t expect it would be THAT strange!

Turns out a lot of these self-appointed “music fans” go around openly listening to sounds that aren’t music. Just rubbing their hypocrisy in our faces. That’s the part that bothers me!

I haven’t seen many new albums being released in 2026 so far and if this trend continues, it could be a very bad year for music. ☹️

But there are lots of other fun ways to clap along to live music. For example you can do a clap every time the singer sings a word with 3 or more vowels in it or every time the bassist furrows their brow in apparent confusion.

If you want to clap along when attending a concert of live music, you should always clap on the “1” and the “3”. This helps the musicians remember where the start and midpoint of each bar falls. If you clap on other beats, this could confuse the band members and lead to them making mistakes.

It would be nice if the new year started at the same time everywhere. To make it more fair, they could move it around like the olympics. Having it staggered across the different time zones makes the whole thing feel kind of bullshit.

There were no perfect albums in the 90s. They all contained mistakes, recording mess ups and general deviations from acceptable tolerances. It wasn’t until the 2000s, when autotune and advanced audio correction software became widely available that perfect albums were even a possibility.

In my opinion, too much music nowadays is autobiographical, and this is especially true for instrumental music.

Prince’s Another Lonely Christmas isn’t Christmas music. It simply takes place in a universe where Christmas also exists. If it were Christmas music, it would be the best Christmas music by some distance, but it’s that specific excellence that precludes it from being Christmas music.

Just ran the numbers and it turns out that if you were to try to listen to 200 tapes end to end with no breaks, it would take you about 4 years. So we don’t know how @tabsout.bsky.social managed it, but somehow they did, and we are very excited to have STR tapes included among those.

Congratulations to Dr Peter J Woods on this prestigious and well deserved academic achievement!

Loads of countries sweat eagles like eagles are some hot shit, but eagles are just basically turgid, less-social seagulls who live alone up in the mountains. There are so many cooler birds out there. So when a country has an eagle as its symbol, all the other birds totally laugh at that country.

Earlier today I was in a supermarket where they were playing Angie, from the Rolling Stones album Goat’s Head Soup, many of the ingredients for which were unavailable in that very same supermarket.

None of the members of Kraftwerk actually competed in the Tour de France. They simply wouldn’t have qualified. No way their trial times were good enough. That whole album is basically just them pretending to be high performance cyclists, which, as a fan of the sport, I find pretty disappointing.

Bandcamp is pretty good for connecting with fans who want to support musicians. But if you want your tracks to reach people who actively dislike musicians, then you need to get your music on Spotify as well.

One thing people in the music industry don’t talk about enough is guitarists getting athlete’s foot from using each other’s guitar pedals.

If experimental music composers made more works about how they succeeded even though their detractors said they would fail, experimental music would be a lot more popular.

This works on my latest solo album, not to mention all of the wonderful albums archived at the reserve! Grip it!
