In my eagerly-awaited contribution to the Maria Steen debate, I can confirm that Conor McGregor’s wealth had as much influence on my antipathy towards his #Aras candidacy as her wealth did on hers: None. I simply didn’t want either bigot to be given the airtime.

If Steen had got enough nominations she would of course have been entitled to be on the ballot but her campaign would have made a lot of people (queer people, trans people, brown people) less safe and it is therefore an objectively good thing that she won’t be on it, even though she wouldn’t win.

She's a wealthy privileged conservative activist, who failed to organise a piss up in a brewery. That she couldn't get 20 people to support her right wing politics in our current climate and with our elected officials speaks volumes about her lack of organisation and effort here.

Genuinely baffled by the wailing and pearl clutching about Maria Steen not being on the ballot. Why are people acting like she was basically owed the nomination, or we are obliged to have her on the ballot? She started her campaign like 5 minutes before the deadline and failed, she is owed nothing.
