The elevator pitch was always "what if superheroes were real and effectively commercialized like child stars? What if Disney could buy superhumans the way they buy media properties?"

If you're not familiar with Velveteen, it's my superhero dystopia, and from the fact that I've been writing it for fifteen years, you can see that it's not just me trying to capitalize on the popularity of THE BOYS.

So when @subpress.bsky.social asked about finishing Velveteen, I was ecstatic. These are limited-edition physical books, but the ebooks are available again, and the physical books are gorgeous.

Velveteen began on LiveJournal, as a way to sponsor me to Australia for the 2010 Melbourne Worldcon. I sat down, did the math on how much I needed to save daily if I wanted to attend, and then sold blog "sponsorships" for that amount.
