State recognition is not a substitute for honouring the obligation to prevent and punish genocide

My theory is that the sudden rush by countries like the UK and France to recognize Palestine as a state has little to do with justice, and everything to do with asylum policy. Once Palestine is recognized, they can deny Palestinians refuge by classifying them as nationals of their own "safe state."

There's something quite heartening about this photo, there's hope yet.
