#SummerOfStories My prose has been described as "clear," which I never understood. I like to think that I write with a very intimate perspective, getting in my character's heads. I also describe what people wear a lot.

5. My prose borders on poetry from time to time, but never loses pacing, i.e. not purple-y. I generally write from 1st person PoV these days, so details are relatively confined to what the PoV sees/notices. I do longer paragraphs, as a rule. World building and characterization are my strengths.

I think I'd rate as "purple" but if you can believe it, I'm trying to dodge "flowery". I pick every word with care for effect. I'm very interested in form and WILL die, PHYSICALLY, on the hill of "stories are not streams of facts". I also love sound and mouthfeel! #SummerOfStories

I interviewed a former prosecutor yesterday who said this one thing that I cannot stop thinking about : “I think the most radical thing I learned from becoming a prosecutor is how much violence women face in this country and how little people care.”

This one is hard, because there are a lot of ways to measure enthusiasm. Ultimately, I think I have to go with Kathryn Tellin, whose enthusiasm for her agenda and objectives endures for thousands of years. Her commitment to her aims stops at nothing and no one, and that takes a kind of enthusiasm.

Maybe it’s because I just so happen to live in the county with the most data centers per capita in the country, but hatred of data centers — particularly during water/electricity crises during hot summer heat — really seems to be a bipartisan class-related issue unlike anything I’ve ever seen.
