Maybe it's because I'm Canadian that I didn't previously know this, but it was only a year ago that I learned the cottage industry of prohibitive student loans for higher education was only created to keep Black people out of school. Some interesting perspectives here, mostly trying to engage the us (Black) vs them (Black) with some nuance. From my experience, Chicago also has a good bit of Black immigrant led organizing (cultural or otherwise) and I wonder where their voices are in this piece.

Re: ICE "evacuating" the Broadview facility I am hearing from some folks that ICE made a similar claim about a facility in Portland (that it was winding down operations) that was basically a fake out, with normal operations resuming there before long, so we are going to have to be vigilant.
