I’ve been waiting for this piece. As a Cubs fan living in Canada, this has been the entire season for me. Instead of any actual ads, every break in the broadcast features the same 4 or 5 clumsy in-house productions. The Mike Piazza one at the heart of this piece is really *shockingly* bad.

Wondery fired 110 producers today. The latest in a bunch of cuts that have decimated long form narrative podcasting. I have noodled for years now on the way forward and I really see independent shows as the only way. Some of my producers lost side gigs from this. It’s really hard out here!

This is so wonderfully wild. As a long, longtime Reader/Publicist/Katy Perry I just can’t imagine that the pod has come this far. I would love them to bring their old massive live I Don’t Think So Honey/Cultch War format to TV.

One common strength of both THE PITT and WARFARE: When the teams in each are “in the shit,” the dialogue is highly technical and not comprehensible to regular folk, but the writers correctly trust we will get it. Audiences should be respected like this more often. It increases verisimilitude.

This clip from the NYT homepage is a staggering example of why podcasts just shouldn’t have video. Like, negative charisma and just so amateurish, with the same slow zoom applied to every clip. (No audio, I’m not going to subject you to Ross Douthat)
