firefly is more than the actors & quirky dialogue. firefly refers to an ideal, stories about found family in space, scifi that's small stakes about people and not galaxies. we don't need firefly per se, we want stories about ppl who care about each other despite the oppression, despite the system

The joy and the happiness and the vibes that Venezuela brought to this tournament. It's remarkably different than what was going on over in the United States dugout. Good for Venezuela. Baseball is supposed to be fun. Teams are supposed to have deep bonds. Venezuela showed America how it's done.

A big takeaway this year has to be that Sinners and One Battle After Another were big, artist driven, swings bankrolled by WB whose future is ultimately unclear. I like living in a world where people like PTA and Ryan Coogler get to make the films they want to make with those resources.

It's striking how much mental health advice directed at kids and teenagers boils down to saying "you have to be okay with people treating you like you're not fully human because they're right, but it's okay because one day you WILL be human", then being genuinely surprised when it doesn't help.

(2/2) So here's a fun hypothetical: what might D&D's third character class have looked like if that rival PC had been a different sort of goofy 70s horror movie critter? What does the hard counter to a wolfman or a Frankenstein's Monster or whatever look like when generalised into a character class?

If you're familiar with the history of TTRPGs, you've likely heard about how the proto-RPG that would become D&D initially just had fighters and wizards, and the cleric was introduced specifically to provide a mechanical hard counter to another player's vampire PC in a long-running PvP game. (1/2)

humans make bad choices and mistakes, which is why i think the way you handle the consequences matters a lot more than the initial decision. the way platner has handled his tattoo scandal makes me doubt not just his character, but his ability to handle difficult politics in general as a senator.
