Not enough commentary on how this new trend of offering the founders a bunch of money to leave but keeping the now worthless corporate vehicle intact without an exit might end the Silicon Valley startup scene if AI coding reduces the cost of execution to near zero.

Initial claims are subject to a big dose of noise around Thanksgiving, but stepping back there are real/growing tensions in layoff indicators. Are ineligible groups (contract workers, some immigrants, sole proprietors & gig workers) playing a bigger role? Are severance packages longer than usual?

We first note that hand-wringing about the decline in US college enrollments has mistakenly linked such declines to the price of four-year colleges. But the decline is entirely driven by two-year community colleges (and by for-profit colleges). The four-year sector is the dog that didn't bark.
