Lots of emotions and questions following Homan's announcement. But the thing I keep coming back to is this: We cannot go back. We must take this moment, reflect on the power we discovered, and build a city that is stronger, more caring, and more connected. A city that can do this can do anything.

I think on top of the visible trauma and rebuilding, this is a large risk if we are in fact entering into a new phase. Much of ICE’s activity has been jail related for its whole existence and it is built on the idea that there are discardable people nobody has to see.

I’ll believe it when I see it. Everything they’ve said about this illegal occupation has been built on a lies. We need accountability for our neighbors and for this whole corrupt department to be dismantled. Stay out there, keep your connection to one another, and only believe your eyes.

A really good statement about today. It affirms every caveat about how Homan can't be believed, how vigilance must be maintained, and how the work continues... while also having the tone of a movement that is winning. The appearance of victory can be demobilizing; this is a call to keep showing up.

They're liars. Which is why so many folks right now don't believe what they're saying about ending the occupation. We'll believe it when we see it.
