Hegseth's military is in this weird superposition in which he enforces strict, authoritarian discipline against soldiers stepping even one inch out of line, but also, soldiers are allowed to do literally anything they feel like, anywhere, any time.

People at the start of Trump’s term told me: this isn’t that bad, the court will rule against trump He and his admin are spending a lot of time, resources, and therefore taxpayer money (mine and yours) for more than a year, devoting serious effort to trying to pull this off In a sane world, that…

These Elastic Shoelaces May Be the Best $10 I've Ever Spent
As an adult, you probably don't think that hard about trying your shoes. But if you get elastic shoelaces, you'll literally never think about it again.

It's simple: The Supreme Court says bans on medical care—and speech related to that care—are only allowed in the conservative direction. Tennessee can ban gender-affirming care as a medical regulation, matter but Colorado CANNOT regulate therapists who wish to deny patients' gender or sexuality

Recently wrote about the Chicago neighborhood tourism posters created by Steve Shanabruch, who has no affiliation with any city agency, he draws them just because he wants to! They’re done in the style of those old WPA posters for the national parks and they’re just gorgeous. The Superdawg one is 😍

Thread. I'm begging people to realize how much we've already given in just the past 25 years. I'm old enough to remember when surveillance wasn't ubiquitous and before ICE or the TSA existed. There was even a time when the average cop wasn't kitted out for full on urban warfare.

He was 8 when his parents brought him to the US. He has abided by the law, earned two bachelor’s degrees and was en route to the NICU to see his wife and child. This serves no purpose but cruelty and does not make the US any safer.

This doesn't have to keep happening. It is possible to craft worlds where women and children are safe, rather than objects to be either dominated or protected from the domination of others. It is possible to create a world where people can just be safe in their bodies.
