The last New York City mayoral candidate to secure over 1 million votes was John Lindsay in 1969. Zohran Mamdani will be the seventh New York City mayor ever to receive more than 1 million votes.

A lot of Very Serious People will be pretending to be confused about What This All Means as a way to avoid the simple inconvenient reality: Voters like it when candidates are kind sincere non-weirdos who are passionate about big popular ideas that will actually help real people.

There are more of us than there are of them.

Zohran Mamdani wins! He ran on an unabashedly pro-transgender platform, stood up for the most vulnerable, as so many have pushed for the Democratic Party to abandon trans people in order to win. Major win for trans New Yorkers - he has vowed for intense resistance to anti-trans Trump policies.

The oligarchy came out in full force against Zohran Mamdani's fight for a more affordable NYC. It didn't matter. Let his victory in the face of Big Money serve as a reminder that people have the power.
