Lemme spell it out. Trump's only leverage over Jimmy Kimmel and ABC came from FCC regulation. His direct power over H1-B visas gives him similar leverage over tech, higher ed, and others.

Serious scholars have examined what happens when we change the number of H1-B visas issued. Cities that get more H1-B immigrants subsequently see the wages of natives *rise* substantially. Skilled immigrants bring new ideas, fill labor shortages and make us all more productive.

A $100k “price” for H1-B visas is like a tariff on STEM labor. And the first rule of tariffs is clear: never tax your inputs — that just makes American firms less competitive than their foreign competitors.

It was a night of fearmongering, misinformation, and policy choices that put vulnerable people (children especially) at greater risk.

- He even defended cuts to Medicaid and the Children’s Health Insurance Program, part of the law he signed earlier this year, brushing off concerns about families losing coverage.

- He pointed to an FDA notice about acetaminophen during pregnancy but twisted it into another attack on Tylenol, repeating over and over that women shouldn’t take it while pregnant or give it to children, even though the science doesn’t support his scare campaign.

- He ranted about vaccines, claiming babies are being “loaded up” with “too much liquid,” a baseless idea. There’s no evidence that standard childhood vaccines overwhelm the immune system or cause autism.

- He signed an executive order labeling “antifa” a domestic terrorist organization, a category that doesn’t even exist under U.S. law. Anti-fascism, like fascism itself, is a broad political stance, not an official group that can be banned.

Trump spent the night spiraling off the deep end with a series of wild claims and moves:
