Many autistic people tend to go to the extreme on either side of things. We’re either “what peer pressure, I feel none of it” or “holy sugar I need to change everything about myself in order to fit in and people please”. No in between, all of it or none of it.

I'm not good at anything. I dont do anything. I dont know anything. But I know this: Certain forces are out of control

Rather than identifying with every passing thought or feeling, we can step back and witness them as transient phenomena. This practice brings a sense of inner freedom, as we no longer feel compelled to chase after each mental impression.

What's crazy is people take vacations and create even more schedules and tasks for themselves. I've whittled all mental health down to one basic thing: if you have to pay attention to the clock, you're not relaxing.

This is... actually a fairly reasonable takeaway from this year.
