One of the most surreal moments in autistic life is you'll have all these wonderful books you plan on reading but never get round to reading and you don't know why. You'll keep building up a shortlist of books you plan on reading regardless.

It seems many autistics use the term "spicy" For me personally, I don't get it, I have never understood that. Autism is far from spicy for me. Spicy for me is something that I like, there's many things I don't like about me so why would I be spicy?! I know this might seem controversial to some.

It screams volumes when I feel I need to mute a word because it "apparently" causes autism. Pretty much all of my life I have been told to "get a grip" with how I am. I'm not the the one that needs to, seriously.

Routine is such an important part not just of my life but many out there who are autistic. If you're not OK with that, then that's a your problem 🤪

Autistic life for me is I was an adult as a child. Then a child as a teen. I followed that up by being a person in their 40s in my 20s. Right now I'm 38 and simultaneously 70 and 17 and I wouldn't want that any other way.

Having a replacement bank card for the first time in 5 years, yes 5 years. Autistic me is really not a fan of this change because you have to literally change payments over and the whole process of doing this stresses me out. Why can't some things even if it's just this one.. stay the same.

Being autistic in 1997 means meltdowns for me. 2025 means still meltdowns. My meltdowns don't go away as I got older, I'm just able to manage them better than when I was 10. That is all.

Just abit of a heads up here. Never ever tell someone who is autistic to be or act a certain way. It's not just going to catch you completely out but may also lead to completely messing up the autistics head for the rest of the day or more. Being respectful goes along way.

Everyone is too busy in their own life to notice, or care, whether or not you're overwhelmed in public, that's the reality of being autistic adult. We all inherently make exceptions for children, but not as an adult, you're on your own like everyone else. It shouldn't be like this.

There is people out there that are autistic and are simply bad to be around. Some will try to use you, then throw you away. No matter where you go in the world. As autistics we must learn how to filter out the bad ones. Not easy. Meaning, leave them behind, once you notice any potential red flags.

Autistic life was instead of going out at 18 and into my 20s I was just sitting in my room developing all these what feels useless emotional depth that you can't really do anything with. I could've just partied instead. and had fun. and felt alive. When I was young and most free and able to do so.

"Oh you're autistic so you like reading dictionaries" I don't actually. I also plan to read many books but never actually get round to read many books.

Autistic me: I’m lonely, I should try to spend time with others. Also autistic me: I’m so exhausted, anxious and overwhelmed. I don’t have the energy, focus or mindset necessary for me to meaningfully connect with others and have positive interactions at this time.

Some autistic people don't speak, some speak a lot. Some stim, some don't. Some avoid eye contact, some don't. Autism isn’t just one story. It’s a library full of wonderful people.

After waking up today it seems lots of people relate to this one. Part 2 of my list for autistic me. Waiting to go out.. music. Seeing someone you ain't seen for a while.. music. Discontinued product from shop.. music. After spending time at a family event.. music. Basically music is awesome.

Nothing resets my autistic brain quite like music does. Feeling stressed.. music. Feeling anxious.. music. Meltdown.. music. Burned the hell out.. music. Getting judged by others.. music. Uncomfortable in new areas.. music. The list goes on. If in doubt.. music.

To expand further on what I said earlier. To the people that judge, I'm simply a better human not being around these people. Why should I have any regrets about being autistic, when there is nothing I can do to alter people's views on me. Surround yourself with the good people, not the bad.

People can and will judge you for not being a certain way. Especially if it's nothing like them. The thing is, autistic me will not pretend to be a certain way to fit in with others. Why not ? Because it wouldn't be me. At least when people call out my behaviour I'm being myself. Be yourself.

Being autistic can be quite frustrating. Not because of autism itself but because how others respond to us. I often get told "I'm not autistic and I do that" I wonder if comments like this are trying to come across as being polite in some sort of way but failing miserably on the delivery front.

Being autistic can mean many things for people. One might not be comfortable with sound, whereas another might not be bothered in the slightest. One can't cope with food mixing with other foods on the plate; to someone else, it doesn't matter. Truth be told, one set of traits doesn't fit all.

Autistic life is stepping foot outside your front doot for a second then quickly closing the door after going back in and say "no I'm just not peopling today" Autistics can find others quite overwhelming, whether it is masking or not, It's important to take time just for you when possible.

With how I am with phone calls, autistic me is not free for a call, let alone a quick call which will feel not quick at all.

Rules are not made for everyone in the first place. They are designed to maintain a social hierarchy. The reason why autistic people get battered with rules is because we are not in the inner social circle. People can break the rules way worse anyway but somehow you’re being watched like some hawk.

People really need TO STOP saying to autistics "that's not autism" Plesse do better.

Autistic life is staying home where it's comfortable and don't have to use energy that I don't have, I get down because I am isolated and lonely and don't feel part of the world. When I do go places and do things, I get anxiety and overstimulated and just want to be home. Well that is fun isn't it.

Autistic me goes out outside for a walk because that will be nice, it's not too warm. Autistic me comes back 1 minute later because it feels too warm.

Autistic me finds that ‘You have a silly walk’, type of comments are always a precursor to bullying from others. It seems that I'm setting off the dislike alarm somewhere in their brain, but they couldn’t quite identify why they didn't like me, even though I hadn’t done anything to deserve it.

One of the more rather interesting things of being autistic is I pick up on smells that others may not pick up on.

Autistic me thinks lacking social cues ain't actually correct. Just because I don't pick up on yours.. If your interests match mine and you start talking about them I will definitely pick up on your social cues 🙂

Autistic me thinks people should just let autistics be themselves and stop picking out things that's not like them. If we was all the absolute same think how boring the world would be.

Why do people tell autistic people “everyone does that or don't have to be autistic for that“ Why do they feel the need to explain what it's like being me? I’m me, that’s the point. All this does is invalidate me. Not just that but makes you look like a complete and utter ***k. Thanks for reading.

Autistic people can often be told to do things a certain way. Even if my way is more effective and takes less time. My response to this is, does it really matter if things are done a certain way or not when the outcome will be a positive one, and perhaps quicker?! I don't see that it matters.

Autistic me has a thing for corners. Corners are so safe to me, I dislike anyone being behind me. No one can sneak up on you if you're in a corner, especially in public. Seems like a win win. Corners make me feel safe and protected. Corners are the best! They're just so cozy. Corners for the win.

Imagine being able to laugh at something someone says because in your head you picture a funny side to it which they don't. That's autistic life for me.
