The chase of hyper-realism in games was a mistake. I'm not saying that graphics shouldn't improve, what I'm saying is trying to make your game as hyper-realistic as possible has lead to DLSS/FSR and that becoming a crutch for games because making them so realistic has often lead to unoptimized games
