i want to rename personality disorders to “incongruent vulnerabilities” — in other words, wounds that are incongruent with the social world. let’s get rid of diagnostic and moral frameworks and use this one instead.

with consent, there comes dissent. people always talk about consent but rarely about its twin, DISSENT.

and it’s not just consent for the mere fact the social interaction is happening but also HOW the social interaction is happening. others need to consent to the ways you are responding and treating them.

people need to realize that consent is something that must be obtained in any social interaction—not just sex.

Mad people and cognitively disabled people are stripped of the ability to both consent and dissent, and autonomy, because our dominant model of the conditions of consent requires sanity, rationality, and mental ability.

rational capacity shouldn’t be a prerequisite for consent. consent must be obtained even when cognitive capacities don’t meet legal standards of sanity. it entails the idea that it’s possible to consent if cognition is impaired. we need an ethics of consent that doesn’t rely on presumption of sanity

Highly recommend doing some perspective grid exercises!! Once I learned how to imagine a grid on the paper and tilt it to whatever perspective I was goin for it became wayyy easier to communicate perspective, also adding shading of some sort is super important for that!!
