It was 9½ years ago today that my 'Historic pic of the day' series began with this tweet of an Adelaide H Type tram. Every day ever since, I've posted a train or tram photo from my collection, and I still have just enough pics left to reach 10 years. Here's to 6 more months of daily rail pics.

Hara was a small coastal post station on Suruga Bay between Numazu and Yoshiwara. The town's name literally means "meadow," reflecting its open landscape that provided travelers with spectacular unobstructed views of Mount Fuji, making it a favorite for artists and poets.

"sexual matador" is the kind of fantasy you come up with if your homeschool had an abstinence-only sex ed unit. "my favorite part is the dance with the weapon, by second favorite part is how he's always moving away from my touch while playing to a crowd and talking about Franco's campaigns."

Previous Mayor Chris Coleman ended his tenure with 16 FTEs in the Mayor’s office which feels right for a strong mayor city of 300,000 souls. Melvin started his tenure in 2018 with 15 FTEs and his proposed budget for 2026 allocates funds for 13.

So it’s budget season and folks are talking about the city’s money naturally and an old canard that I’ve hand waved away for a few years came up again. It’s the “Melvin Carter bloated the Mayor’s office staff with all his friends!” one. And it caught me wrong this year so I dug into it:

So this narrative which has been floating around crank land for 8 years isn’t only markedly untrue *now*, it’s been bullshit the whole time. I’m curious who the root of this crock of crap was and while I have a couple of ideas, I haven’t found the source. Feel free to holler if you know it.

The oblique angles allow WCs to make a direct path to the drainage stack, rather than using multiple 45° and 90° elbows as often seen in American installations. While the oblique angles come with installation challenges, this approach reduces the risk of blockages and uses less material.
