We used to know how to feed and house ourselves without machinery, industry or global trade. What do you call a local community that cannot feed or house itself? Do we financially value people who grow food or build housing for us today? Do field workers earn more or less than you?

Had some garden work to do today and decided to go for it. Bbecause using some twigs, grass and earth to do a high performance wall is for sure a conversation starter in the exhibition?

When people care about emissions, they focus laser-like on future emissions. Meanwhile, they ignore manufacturing emissions today. When constructing performant buildings, materials account for 50-80% of the life cycle. With poorer buildings, the figure is lower, but overall emissions are higher. 🏡🚘🌆

I am always amazed that windows are not mentioned as accounting for a large proportion of embodied carbon emissions of a building. Less is more in the first place. That many buildings need upgrades, especially single pane and very old 2 pane windows is still true.
