It’s worth noting that when Jan. 6 happened, the pro-Trump right used dozens of conspiracy theories to try and offload blame from themselves—e.g., claiming it was “antifa,” “feds.” Now, they seem keen to just admit they did it—all of it—and it was good.

I noticed during the pandemic that people most likely to mask, distance, etc. were those people who were already comfortable with discomfort. They'd learned to grieve, or live with a disability, or been marginalised in some way. The people who didn't know how to process discomfort screamed.

this is absolutely worth remembering: when the abolitionists began the struggle against the slave power, the slave power looked unbeatable. they fought anyways--a long, difficult, often thankless struggle. they fought anyways.

Our government's message to the populace is this: America isn't a country but rather it is a shopping spree, and everything is up for grabs. Shove as many dollar bills into your pockets as possible and run while you still can.

maybe implement it by 2030, but you'd need to have started 10 years ago... and honestly it's a Naval mission, but not a Navy mission if you know what i mean. maybe we should make a unit designed around this. could be an entire corps even.

the fact that the average person just does not give a half of a shit about trans people and what is being done to us daily (and what is being threatened) is really really really starting to wear me down. just total apathy, even from the people that purport to care

Trump gathered all of the very worst people in the country in one place and got them to break a million laws and then pardoned all of them, and now local law enforcement has to go get them one by one as they commit new crimes.

Groypers aren't your friends. They're against attacking Iran because they want all those bombs falling on Brooklyn instead. They hate Israel for the other reason. If they're self-deporting back to the fringes of the far right that's GOOD.

The backlash against Barack Obama by white people very specifically has revived Jim Crow. Now they’re ready to argue about what Obama should be doing in this moment when they spent years making excuses for their racist relatives and complaining about avenues of Black political power

I have said often that white people wield the benefit of the doubt like a bludgeon. It is one of their most potent, tempting and common weapons. It extends outsized reach to bad actors, gives them leverage & is simple & effective. It has killed us many times over. So I no longer extend it.

One of the defining hallmarks of our modern age is that people in charge of good things are willing to make them incrementally worse for a chance to make more money, knowing most people are powerless to stop it.

To say that I am concerned about the future of our nation is putting it mildly. But it is thus as it ever was, I suppose. Abe says it best. “It is for us the living, rather, to be dedicated here to the unfinished work which they who fought here have thus far so nobly advanced.”

I don’t think most Americans comprehend the sheer amount of racial violence in our history of which the Civil War was simply a part. The violence against Black Americans trying to exercise their rights as citizens was horrific through the 19th & 20th centuries, from lynchings to open massacres
