In 2009, President Obama went to Camp Lejeune in North Carolina to speak to troops. He talked about policy. I shudder to think of the media reaction if he had ventured into political talk like this. I hope this will be treated appropriately.

This is all due to the incredible resistance of the people of Minnesota. Their resilience - and their determination - helped enforce the Constitution in a way that political elites in Congress and the courts did not or could not.

There's a reason that consumers feel like the economy isn't great even though the indicators and experts tell us things are fine. This is a part of it.

This is my 2026 so far.

I look at political news scenarios for what we can learn as communicators. And there are certainly lessons to be learned from the many different answers the White House gave on the racist video Trump posted. But the only one that matters is: don't be racist or work for racists.

My first campaign was the Wellstone for Senate campaign. I learned a lot of lessons from that team. But here’s the most important: Sometimes to win a fight, you have to pick one.

The headline should be, "DHS to keep 2,000 immigration officers in Minnesota." Instead, it seems the entirety of the traditional media went with, "DHS to withdraw 700 immigration officers from Minnesota." This presser worked like a charm.

Remarkable that Vance won't answer a hypothetical NOW, but was very willing to label Pretti without any investigation or facts.

This is alarming and anti-democratic. It's also potentially a terrible political move for Republicans in the midterms, many of whom are running in blue or purple states and will have to fight a president telling Republicans their votes don't count.

A few broader thoughts: 1) This election happened, period. 2) It happened in Texas, no less. 3) It happened even though Trump himself took an intense interest in winning it. If Trump could cancel elections or ordain their outcomes, then why didn't he do that tonight?

The majority of organizing happening in Minnesota isn’t just peaceful, it’s INVISIBLE. Moms showing up who won’t be interviewed on TV, people whose ICE patrols don’t turn into viral video. The grocery runs, the donations, the people filming bc they happen to be there. Please remember this.

In the midst of all of this, I'm also terrified of this storm and what could come after it. In my house, we need power for a family member on a high level of oxygen, and I know there are people who face even greater challenges. We need a government that works, and we are led by people who hate govt.

You have to read this. Firsthand affidavit from one of the women who was there and recording the video. She talks about how Alex Pretti was directing traffic when she arrived. She watched him be killed in front of her. She's afraid to go home, worried she'll be arrested.

By who? Who shot the person dead? You saw the video. We all know a federal agent shot a man dead who was prone on the ground. Also, it's not "according to officials." It's according to verified video seen with your eyes. Not saying what anyone can obviously see with their eyes is a form of lying.

We have been told for nearly 30 years that America needed to tolerate mass shootings because the broad availability of guns would help us defend ourselves from an overreaching federal government. That day has come. The people who said this are supporting the federal agents. Many have joined them.

I'm not in the business of giving the Trump team help, but they have a moment when they could take a look at the public poll numbers and try to turn this around, politically. Note that this is not what their plan is, that these are agents who went too far, and that they want to lower the temperature

A lot we don't know at this point, but it's fascinating that the people who made a hero out of Kyle Rittenhouse seem to think an "approach" with a gun is a death penalty offense.

DHS (once again) announces conclusion (within 3 hours) without any investigation. - Conclusion about federal agent's intent - Conclusion about individual's intent - Implicit conclusion about timing of disarming the individual and shooting him

If ICE truly were targeting "the worst of the worst" and not, you know, deliberately brutalizing innocent families with children, they'd rush to correct all the stories like this one, apologizing and insisting it's not what they're really doing. They don't because this is deliberate. This is it.
