Trump and Republicans are gerrymandering, disenfranchising, and silencing communities of color. We can't let this happen again in the future.

My staff and I participated in @replsimon.bsky.social’s town halls in Albany and Piedmont last month and shared timely County-level updates related to immigration and the safety net. It was great to see the strong turnout and unity among folks in two parts of our district!

Accountability does not come from throwing children away. The data is clear: when kids are tried as adults, they are more likely to reoffend and commit more serious crimes.

The contributions, love, and joy of the Latino community are fundamental to the history and culture of the East Bay, California, and the nation. This month and every month, we embrace the resilience, culture, and dreams of our Latino brothers and sisters.

President Trump’s HUD has gutted fair housing protections, rolling back regulations, cutting grants, and firing staff who enforced the Fair Housing Act. Our elders bled for protections for people of color, people with disabilities, veterans, survivors of domestic violence, and LGBTQ+ folks. CONT⬇️

Weekend Round-Up in the Bay! On Saturday, I joined the Urban League of Greater San Francisco Bay Area to honor strong leaders committeed to advancing equity and justice in the Bay Area.

For 18 years, Asian American & Native American Pacific Islander-Serving Institutions have made higher education more accessible and affordable for AANHPIs. By cutting their funding, Trump is robbing AANHPI students of the opportunity to pursue the American dream.

Last week, I joined the families of Palestinian Americans killed by Israeli settler violence and military this week as they told their stories and demanded justice for loved ones who were lost too soon. Ayşenur Ezgi, Saif Musallet, and Tawfic Abdel's memories live on.

Oversight Republicans put forth the "Clean and Managed Public Spaces Act" in committee last week. This bill perpetuates a cycle of law enforcement arresting & criminalizing the unhoused -- without providing long-term shelter or housing solutions. Over the last several months, Members of Congress have used increasingly derogatory anti-trans language, and now, 2 Members are calling for trans people to be institutionalized. Speaker Johnson & GOP leadership must reign in these extremist Members & put a stop to this rhetoric.

I spoke on the House Floor against extreme and cruel amendments to the National Defense Authorization Act that would ban data collection on gender identity at DOD. As a Vice Chair of @equality.house.gov, I will never stop fighting for the rights of our LGBTQ+ siblings.

For over three decades, I worked on and designed intiatives that cut recidivism and created real safety. I know real safety comes from believing that young people - even those who commit serious crimes - can be held accountable and rehabilitated.

It was incredible to host my first CA-12 small business expo this week! We spent the day connecting innovators, entreprenuers, and small businesses in the East Bay with federal, state, and local agency representatives to talk about how we can best support innovation in our communities.

Piedmont, you were the last stop on our CA-12 town hall tour. I've now hosted NINE town halls to hear from folks all across the district. I will be carrying all of your voices with me back to Washington and the policy making table as another legislative session begins.

Oakland’s Chinatown has for more than a century been a center of culture, commerce, and political power. From its founding, through exclusion and displacement, Chinatown’s families and businesses have built a community that continues to shape the life of our City.

For too long, young Black men have been pushed to the margins of the innovation economy. This work pushes back. At Hidden Genius, young Black men are building skills, gaining support, and stepping into spaces where they have always belonged.

Food, health care, and shelter are basic human rights.   Barring immigrants from disaster aid is cruelty and just the next step in Trump's plan to dehumanize immigrant communities. In CA-12, we care for our neighbors through the darkest times.
