It's not that they don't know. They want to own the culture that would have hated them or hates them now, so they conveniently ignore the heart of the issues so they can claim the shiny part. I'll tell you what though—they know their voters are stupid enough not to know.

Four-Song Peel Session of soul singer Ann Peebles from October 9, 1974. John Peel thought she was “the owner of one of the world’s great voices” and “I Can’t Stand the Rain” (written with husband Don Bryant) was one of his favourite singles.

Another benefit of doing the re-watch: it reminded me that I should really take advantage of the opportunity to have David Zucker as a guest on Letting Them Talk w/ Will Harris, so I asked, and he said he'd be happy to. So look and listen for him to pop up in 2026

A cool thing about "The House I Live In" is that its lyrics were written by Abel Meeropol, best known for (a) writing the lyrics for the anti-lynching song "Strange Fruit," recorded by Billie Holiday, and (b) adopting Julius and Ethel Rosenberg's orphaned sons.

Fascinating history! When segregation was no longer a viable platform, George Wallace used electricity rates to rile up voters. His tactics ultimately caused blowback that led to a system of automatic rate increases without oversight.

Besides the sorrow with the passing of this pioneer, I'm particularly sad that most of Poe's films, including THE BLANK GENERATION, wound up with estranged collaborator Ivan Král, who altered Poe's credits. Now also deceased, Král's inheritors seem disinclined to make them widely available again.
