I got some crap after posting this, but this has worked out the only way it was ever going to work out: police arresting protesters while ICE kidnaps and executes people.

Prison guards are flocking to ICE jobs and frankly this makes sense. Those of us who have been anti-prison organizers for decades have been saying that fascism already existed within prisons/jails. Our best teachers for how to survive fascism are incarcerated people.

What ICE is doing to immigrants and now white Americans in Minneapolis is what US law enforcement has always done to Black Americans, indigenous people, and poor white folks in rural areas. Your outrage is justified and welcome but this fight didn't start this week.

Yesterday’s killing of Minneapolis mother Renee Nicole Good proves the dangers of Trump’s campaign of terror via ICE across our country. ICE officers appear to not only be acting with impunity, but the explicit approval and support of the president and his administration.

So lets be clear: Rn, IRL, as a practical matter, cops are "allowed" to kill ppl if they don't do what they say. George Floyd's death wasn't enough to change that. Perhaps this white mom's death will spur change. But whenever we finally say cops are "not allowed" to do this, it will be a new thing.

One thing I didn't fully appreciate until I sat on a jury and reviewed body cam footage for myself, is how cops yell contradictory instructions at people like "Don't move" "Put your hands up" "Get the fuck out of here" "Keep your hands where I can see them" etc. all screamed at your face with guns

What if we funded a system that was designed to meet student needs, like a small teacher to staff ratio? Our public schools are scraping by, trying to meet needs. Something always has to give because our country doesn’t amply fund public schools. Tax the mega rich to fund schools. It’s that simple!

I was so sad to hear about the death of a cyclist due to a hit-and-run on Beacon Ave. Allie was a beloved community member, avid biker, & advocate for safer transit & streets. My condolences to their family and friends. But condolences are hollow if we don’t take action to prevent the next tragedy.

HB 2100 does it! It’s a payroll tax on high earners paid by the largest 1% of corporations in our state. I’m also hearing that the State Legislature will consider a bill that repeals this sales tax on public schools in 2026 - it will likely come through the House Finance Committee.

SPS 2nd graders did not have their education interrupted by a pandemic. We should be investing more resources at all schools for evidence-based early intervention. How about using that $1B levy voters just passed on our public school kids? Our public school kids deserve it.

A family friend was telling us about what her husband shared about his experience in Broadview before he was deported back to Mexico. She's been sharing to friends and family because she's just in disbelief & horror what her husband told her. She wasn't able to talk to him until he was in Mexico.

This happened to me one year, too. If you care about your vote counting, it’s really easy to check to see if your ballot was counted or if there is an issue!

Washington, there's literally no excuse to not vote. We vote by mail or dropbox (use a dropbox since you waited til the last minute). Black voters in the South often have to stand in line for hours to do what you can do in your slippers. Get your life together and send off that damn ballot.

The Stranger got one endorsement really wrong this year. As @lisarivera.bsky.social points out, they should have endorsed Sarah Clark for school board. Rivera, herself endorsed by the Stranger when she was on the board and a 2020 delegate for Bernie Sanders to the DNC, makes an excellent case:
