And Tiny Tim, who did NOT die, was present at the end of the universe, having witnessed every black hole evaporate and every proton decay. Even so, Death would not come.

I have to point out this article is absolute dogshit and is complaining about Bethesda not pirating Photoshop to avoid AI use, which would be utterly insane and make development significantly harder, and suggests Bethesda uses AI the same way everyone does when they use modern scaling tools.

A complementary pathology is that there's the perception that erring on the side of being too naive is somehow far worse than erring on the side of being too cynical, despite the fact that overly cynical predictions are wrong *all the fucking time*, wrong in just as consequential ways too!

Just thinking about how revolutionary Call of Duty was back in the day. Not even CoD4, but the first one. My uni housemate was buzzing about the siege of Stalingrad level, and I'd never played anything like that before.

#BBCFour
there's a Ghost Story for Christmas, with 4 chilling tales of the macabre, as well as the classic Jonathan Miller adaptation of Whistle and I'll Come to You. That's later...on BBC FOUR!

Last weird internet thing of the year. In two weeks we'll be holding the third annual Fishmas: a competition in which people simultaneously blind-compete to catch the biggest fish in a fishing game to win a free hat. Happy Fishing! rules & info:

🚨 The UK government just published a breakdown of the responses to its consultation on AI & copyright: - 95% of respondents want AI companies to pay for their training data (made up of 88% saying strengthen copyright law, & 7% saying leave it as is) 🧵 1/2

this field biologist does a great job highlighting the insidiousness of AI editing these one-click AI edit buttons are incredibly appealing to many photographers, amateurs and professionals alike, and are framed as innocuous this is worth sharing and educating people about

This is fucking grim. Somebody invented a white guy, an "IT professional" named Edward Crabtree, who stopped the Bondi shooting and spread it all over the internet, which was picked up by AI agents and slop aggregation sites. The real hero is a fruit stand owner named Ahmed el Ahmed.

I'm going to guess it's an ADHD/executive dysfunction thing that I'm endlessly irritated at seeing Christmas food in shops that I'm all ready to get and cook *now*, but having to conceptualise buying in advance (within use-by date) and readying it for an exact time/day? Hell.

As much as I've been a goofy fuck about promoting I Will Kill Your Imaginary Friend for $200, the genuine reception it's getting is incredible. Especially with people totally unfamiliar with my work. Here's an early review thread, starting with the incredible starred feature in Publisher's Weekly.

Very sad that I felt I had no choice but to resign from The Infinite Monkey Cage - a victory for the transphobes and other bigots - I did it because so much of the media has chosen to believe the kind and empathetic people are a fiction - they are real and so often unrepresented.

Still jazzed about a new Remedy game in the Control setting, and a new Frictional game that's a spiritual successor to SOMA. Those are both EXTREMELY my jam. And the Divinity announcement was very folk horror. That's some good news for me!
